A man has been banned from keeping animals for ten years after admitting to causing his dog to suffer.
John Whitworth from Cambridgeshire admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a dog when he appeared before Wisbech magistrates on Thursday, 5 April. He was also ordered to pay £300 in costs. Suffering
Misty, a German Shepherd, was discovered by the RSPCA in November 2006. She had very overgrown nails, and a skin infection, which had caused her to lose some of the fur from her back. The examining vet also found that both of Misty’s ears were severely ulcerated due to an untreated infection. The vet estimated that she would have been suffering for at least four weeks. In sentencing, the chair of magistrates said: "No-one likes to see animals mistreated and if the defendant had no money he should have sought help from any number of animal welfare charities." RSPCA Inspector Kat Parfitt said: "This poor dog was suffering simply because his owners had failed to get veterinary treatment for him. I am hopeful that this sentence will prevent other dogs from suffering in a similar way in future."
